Apple’s iPad2 is coming out in just 2 days away. My girlfriend is going to grab one on launch day and I will wait in the line for her. Friends are questioning me about it because I am well known for being an Apple Hater.
iPad no attraction to me, the only reason for me to stand in line and get one of this production is for my girlfriend wants it. I have my eye firmly locked onto the XOOM wifi version which I have no idea when it is coming out.
My company had an iPad so I could experience it, I have to say I do love to read books on the thing and it was great to have it when I am watching TV. I often love to browser internet while I am watching TV or movies. I don’t really like to play games on iPad unless I have absolutely nothing to do; it’s probably because I am a hard core gamer and I love to play MMOs more than causal games ( I grew tired of Angry Bird on my N1 and mainly just Kongregate games now a days.)
Now back to topic. Apple was great when they released iPhone, it set a bar for any smartphone that came after it. I was amazed by it too and it is good for the technological advancement as a whole. Up until then, people had experimental devices but none were popular. These devices weren’t bad, they just wasn’t built to meet average Joe’s need: simple, easy to use. Apple hit a home run with it’s arrogant user experiences philosophy – Apple knows better or more precisely, Steve Jobs knows best. Apple has successfully sold us an idea that Apple is the most innovate company. They build solid hardware and software.
In my humble opinion, it’s all just hoax. True, the iPhone was innovative, true the iPod was cutting edge back in the 2000s but if you take a look at the product itself, you see the flaws in Apple’s logic. The iPod has nothing new for the past 10 years. It’s still just an MP3 player. The parts might be upgraded but the software is still the same. The iPod touch is just a wifi version of the iPhone and the iPad is just a bigger version of the iPhone. How can a company claim they are the most innovative company when their own product hasn’t had any major breakthrough in the past 10 years. The Mac system have seen hardware upgrades, and a new OSX almost every year, but what are the major changes? Let’s look at Microsoft as an example, they have a variety of Windows version in the past 10 years, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows CE, Windows Phone 7, not all of them are successful but they did try to change it. Mac still looks like a Mac and OSX is still OSX with a different animal every time. Maybe it’s not fare, Apple did try to bring Mac Book Air out, so I’ll give them credit for that.
I’m never a big fan of Apple because I don’t like their product and their customer services. For example, my company’s Mac broke down and we lost our recovery disc. Luckily, we have Apple Care purchased. I bought it into the store, they plugin their Apple technician USB drive and was able to access all the system recovery function which is built into the system but regular customer is denied of. If I can download the tool, I could do it myself without paying for Apple Care. Apple sold you the idea that genius bar is full of geniuses and people bought it.
Idea is a powerful stuff, it is hard to get rid off once it is taking hold within one’s mind. To youngsters, MP3 player is iPod, Music store is iTunes. Apple have successfully brainwashed a generation of people and that’s why they are the Best Marketing Firm, not the most innovative company. Remember that.
